Voice Disorders
The UNCG Speech and Hearing Center provides evaluation and instruction for adults with voice concerns. Voice changes may occur due to overuse, illness, injury, neurologic conditions, or aging. or to address voice changes related to aging. Individuals may notice their voice sounds hoarse, breathy, strained, or weak, or they may experience vocal fatigue, reduced endurance, or discomfort when speaking.
Voice therapy helps clients improve vocal quality, endurance, and comfort by learning efficient, healthy voice use. Treatment is tailored to each individual’s needs and focuses on helping clients communicate effectively in their daily lives with greater ease and confidence.
What We Offer:
- Comprehensive voice evaluation, which may include perceptual, acoustic, and functional assessment of voice use
- Written report summarizing evaluation findings and recommendations
- Collaborative goal setting and individualized plan of care development
- Evidence-based therapeutic interventions to improve vocal quality, efficiency, and endurance
- Education and training in healthy vocal behaviors, with a personalized home exercise program to support progress
- Instruction provided by trained graduate students under the supervision of an ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist
- Ongoing progress updates to track improvement and support achievement of functional communication goals
