hearing loss protection and education

Good hearing hygiene starts with protecting your ears from dangerous levels of sound, even sounds that you love like music. UNCG Audiologists are committed to educating patients about how loud sounds can cause permanent hearing loss and tinnitus (ringing in the ears or head). We offer custom hearing protection options including filtered earplugs for industrial noise, motor sports, and music.

UNCG Audiologists also serve the community by distributing earplugs and educational materials at outreach events such as Science Everywhere, Folk Festival, and more!

Kaitlin Fisher, an AuD extern at UNCG, teaches a child about dangerous levels of sound at the Science Everywhere event.

DANGEROUS DECIBELS

The Dangerous Decibels project is a public health campaign designed to reduce the incidence and prevalence of Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) and tinnitus (ringing in the ear) by changing knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of school-aged children. The project is built upon an innovative collaboration between basic science researchers, clinicians, museum educators, health communication experts, civic leaders, teachers, public health professionals, and volunteers in a unique public/private partnership.

For more information, contact Dr. Lisa Fox-Thomas, a trained educator of the Dangerous Decibels curriculum.
